Modern Animal, the new album from Magic City Hippies due on Friday, is full of earworms and bossa nova-flavored, bona fide ass-shakers. It’ll feel a little like a record release show when the Miami outfit opens for Umphrey’s McGee at Jannus Live, too.

“We’re always out to entertain people,” Hippies singer-guitarist Robby Hunter said in a release. “Miami is a nightlife city. People are oriented towards staying out all night. Anything you do has to make them dance.” The band brings the experience of three long years on the road to this show, and you’re going to regret not getting out early to see songs from 11-track album in real life.

Umphrey’s McGee w/Magic City Hippies. Thurs. Aug. 15, 5:30 p.m. $30. Jannus Live, St. Petersburg. jannuslive.com.
