I listened to Will Quinlan’s new single “Texarkana” Sunday morning while I was on vacation with my family. As I sat outside looking at the ocean listening to Quinlan’s heartbreakingly-twangy tenor, voice my mom asked “Are you at church?” It was pretty much the closest thing I’ve gotten to a spiritual experience in quite a while—you can hear and feel the emotion.

“This is a special one for me based on my cousin Mike (who passed a while back), was like a big brother to me and the lost love/greatest heartbreak of his life with a girl (Henrietta) from Texarkana,” Quinlan told CL. Once again, I’m just amazed at the talent we have here in Tampa Bay. Quinlan will play “Texarkana” when he opens for Tennessee's Matt Woods and Indiana’s Austin Lucas, and you’re going to want to stay out late for the headliners.

Woods is a perennial Bay area favorite whose blue eyes only get outshined by his painful croon, and Indiana songwriter Lucas’ 2018 album, Immortal Americans, was criminally overlooked by the country music overlords and lever pullers who always arrive late to the best and brightest young music makers in their industry. Listen to Lucas’ latest, Alive in the Hot Zone, below.
