Round three of new releases in August. I've included info and links for the ones you want to know about most below, plus some other ones you may not have heard of (but should know), with audio & video for your listening and viewing pleasure. Click here to check out releases that dropped over the past few months.
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Mature Themes (4AD)
Bloc Party, Four (Frenchkiss)
Michael "Iron Man" Burks, Show Of Strength (Alligator Records)
The final album and posthumous release from modern day blues guitar hero and vocalist Burks, who completed work on the album and died while changing planes at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport returning from a tour of Europe in May. He was 54 years old.
Evan Caminiti, Dreamless Sleep (Thrill Jockey Records)
Careful, Because I Am Always Talking (self-release)
Carrollhood, Afraid EP (self-release)
Carrollhood is made up of Reed Murray, former drummer of Tallhart, Anberlin drummer Nathan Young, and Underoath guitarist Tim McTague, three musician friends who decided to start the band a year ago, according to Murray, “as a means to create music that was different from our respective bands, and also as an effort to expand Tampa's promising music scene.” All three are heavily involved in songwriting and contribute vocals and instrumentals on guitar, keys and drums. Today marks their first official release, a digital three-song EP. If lead-off track "Remission" is any indication of what this trio is capable of, I'm extremely intrigued. Listen below.
The Darkness, Hot Cakes (Wind-Up)
Dispatch, Circles Around The Sun (Bomber Records/Universal Republic)
Eyes Lips Eyes, What You Want (If You Want) EP (Roll Call Records/ILG)
Fallulah, The Black Cat Neighbourhood (MBM Records)
Bill Fay, Life Is People (Dead Oceans)
The Fleshtones, Quatro X Quatro EP (Yep Roc)
Four Tet, Pink (Text Records)
Happy New Year, Happy New Year (Crikey! Records)
The Heavy, The Glorious Dead (Counter Records)
The UK funk and soul band has blown up since their track "How You Like Me Now?" was featured all over the place in the U.S. — from TV shows like Entourage, The Voice and Community, to films like The Fighter and 2011 film Horrible Bosses to commercials for Kia Sorento and Strongbow. Check out the video for "What Makes a Good Man?" off the foursome's third LP after the jump, along with the rest of this week's new releases.
