It's no secret that the Grammy awards have never really captured all of the best music released in any given year. It's also a fact that simply being nominated for one (let alone winning) is still one of the coolest things that can ever happen to an artist.

Which is exactly why Parquet Courts' Andrew Savage will be at the extravaganza this year.

"I’m sure as shit going to go to the Grammys," Savage, told CL contributor Abram Scharf. "That’s planned. I’m going, but I’m just going there to have a good time and watch David Bowie’s art director win. Maybe I’ll meet Paul McCartney or something."

Savage is nominated for "Best recording package," thanks to his work on Human Performance's aesthetics, which are built around a painting he never intended to present as cover art. Packages from Bon Iver, Rihanna and Reckless Kelly are also nominated in the category.

"I painted that in my own separate state of mind. I do a lot of artwork that has nothing to do with Parquet Courts," Savage added, "but it was around the same time that I started working on the Human Performance art, and it kind of just started screaming at me from the corner."

He says it became apparent that the art needed to be included, because so many of the same emotions were embedded within that painting were [also] within the lyrics of the record.

Read more about those emotions, and what it means to for Savage to be his truest self, by visiting the full Q&A.

You could order the record online, but you should probably call your local record store to see if they're carrying it. Read Creative Review's take on the packaging here.

Parquet Courts play Crowbar in Ybor City, Florida on February 8, 2017. Mary Lattimore opens the show, where doors are at 8 p.m. EST. Tickets are $15-$18. More information is available via local.cltampa.com.
