Rocky Votolato w/Chris Staples Golden Age, the new album from Pensacola, Florida songman Chris Staples is an indie-folk dream where songs like opener “Relatively Permanent” make you want to find someone to fall in love with. The 36-minute effort is out on Seattle’s Barsuk Records, the same adored label that released Rocky Votolato’s LP, Makers, which is getting the 10th anniversary treatment on Monday.
The album, with its unshakable title track and other melancholy masterpieces (“White Daisy Passing,” “Wait Out the Days”) is a bonafide classic pre-indie rock classic and just one shred of a career that’s found the 39-year-old songwriter release a handful of albums with his old band Waxwing and over a dozen more as a solo artist. Votolato, will play Makers in its entirety at this show while also showing off his signature sound, which marries his childhood love of Willie Nelson, Steve Earle, and Johnny Cash with a deep reverence for acts like Fugazi and the late Elliott Smith.
