Cruel, but fair.

Concerts may be on their way back, but just to be safe, not everybody is ready to hit the road quite yet.

Rod Stewart announced a tour with fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Cheap Trick at the very beginning of 2020, right after releasing a new album full of old songs with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It was a new decade with so many new opportunities, right? What could possibly go wrong?

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait yet another year-plus to be in the same room as the hunk who did the best job singing “Forever Young” (sorry, Dylan). A few days ago, the original August 14 date at Tampa’s Amalie Arena was removed from both bands’ respective websites, as well as a few others that were set for this summer. It now appears that all dates have been pushed to mid-2022, including Tampa’s—which will close the tour on September 3 of that year.

The last time Rod played in Tampa was when he co-headlined with Cyndi Lauper during Amalie Arena’s brief British Invasion in the summer of 2017, two days before Paul McCartney’s legendary One On One tour performance here. Tickets are still available on TicketMaster, and start at $45.75.
