Electric Light Orchestra-channeling pop-rockers Rooney dipped into disco territory for the 2007 smash "When Did Your Heart Go Missing?" Whereas that song is all throbbing bass, shimmering synths and cheap rhymes about treating a girl "like a princess," the Los Angeles quintet's '07 full-length, Calling the World, reveals a band capable of richly textured pop and above-average lyrics. Although it seemed Rooney burst on the scene last year, the five-piece issued its self-titled debut in 2003 on Geffen, the same major label that released Calling the World. Rooney included the grabby anxiety ode "I'm Shakin," which barely cracked the Top 40. Also on the bill is Locksley, a Brooklyn garage-rock ensemble that does a fine job of re-creating the jubilant sounds of the British Invasion.
