Paul Wilborn — a former journalist with the St. Petersburg Times and the Tampa Tribune — has assembled a lineup for more than a dozen shows he’s calling the Summer of Soul series, and this kick-off finds saxophonist Jeremy Carter adding a few jazz flourishes to the mix alongside an all-star band (Nathan Mitchell, piano; Omar Rios, guitar; James Varnado, drums, Daniel Navarro, bass) that's helping Carter bring the Great American Jazz Songbook to life at this gig.

Summer of Soul: Jeremy Carter. Fri. July 27, 8 p.m. $36. Side Door Cabaret at Palladium Theater, 253 Fifth Ave. N., St. Petersburg. mypalladium.org.
