✔️Pepe Romero It’s not every night that the Austrian Club hosts a concert, so it’s nice to see world-renowned classical picker Pepe Romero (of Romeros Quartet fame) joining his wife and daughter (who’ll dance flamenco), plus soprano Linda Switzer and Hillsborough Community College guitarist Mark Switzer, on this show that’ll hit many of the best Spanish classical and flamenco songs. (Centro Asturiano, Ybor City) INFO
Dead Prez w/Beach Lion/Gegacy/The Hoy Polloy/John G Lamebot/Madsavvy There’s no doubt that a contingent of Lauryn Hill’s most loyal heads went down to Miami for a rescheduled show that found Dead Prez opening, but anyone who missed that show can see the militant rap duo at Fubar, which will undoubtedly be chock full of hip-hop fans drawn to stic.man and M-1’s Malcom X and Public Enemy-inspired firebrand rap. (Fubar, St. Petersburg) INFO
Punk Rock Karaoke Ella’s has always been a place to get a little tipsy watching bands work through sets on the restaurant’s small corner stage. Friday gives you a chance to turn your liquid courage into a performance of your own when members of Pink Lincolns and Down By Law play punk, hardcore, metal and new wave hits while you sing them. Free to attend, and the regrets are complimentary, too. (Ella’s Americana Folk Art Café, Tampa) INFO
RIES RISING
Tampa Bay siblings Charlie and Kevin Ries are on the road to breaking out.
✔️ The Ries Brothers w/Oogee Wawa South Carolina reggae act Sun Dried Vibes had to cancel this St. Petersburg show with hometown boys The Ries Brothers, but Kevin and Charlie Ries love the Bay area and have committed to headline this show which finds Oogee Wawa — a Long Island-based party band that dips into pop, rock, hip-hop, reggae and more in their set — handling opening duties at the Jannus Live courtyard. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg) INFO
The Florida Orchestra: Music of Queen Berklee-trained arranger-conductor Brent Havens has written music for orchestras, feature films and virtually every kind of television. On Friday he’ll be behind the baton when vocal impersonator Brody Dolyniuk steps to the mic alongside the Florida Orchestra and a full rock band, all playing the music of Queen. You’ve probably heard the big riffs from “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Another One Bites the Dust” a thousand times, but you rarely get to hear them like this. (Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg) INFO
Sawyer Fredericks w/Violet Bell It’s been three years since longhaired rock and roll youngster Sawyer Fredericks won the eighth season of The Voice, and on Friday fans of reality TV can hear those pipes (and see the mane) up close and personal when the 19-year-old plays The Attic, where Durham, North Carolina songwriter Violet Bell will open the show. (The Attic at Rock Brothers Brewing, Ybor City) INFO
JD Eicher w/Dan Rodriguez/Matt Hires We’ll take any excuse to see former Tampa pop songwriter Matt Hires, and a headlining set from über-uplifting Youngstown-based, Ohio-born-and-bred pop-rocker JD Eicher (FKA JD Eicher & the Goodnights) makes it that much easier to head out to Safety Harbor for this one, where Dan Rodriguez rounds out the agenda. (Safety Harbor Art and Music Center, Safety Harbor) INFO
YOU'RE HIRED
Matt Hires loses religion, holds tight to God on American Wilderness
✔️ Mike Shinoda w/Don Broco You’re probably not gonna hear all of the Linkin Park songs you’re hoping to when co-founder Mike Shinoda comes to headline a solo show in Ybor City. It’s been just a year since the 41-year-old lost his friend and bandmate Chester Bennington to suicide, and some tunes just make Shinoda emotional. Expect him to be part counselor, part emcee at this gig in support of a 2018 album, Post Traumatic, which he released over the summer. UK rock quartet Don Broco (“Greatness”) opens the show. (The Ritz, Ybor) INFO
✔️ Phantom Phunk EP Release Tampa rock band Phantom Phunk said that it tried to take a page from the Gorillaz, Outkast and Kid Cudi when it pieced together “Every Where You Go” from its new EP, Struggle With Me. Featuring bottom-shaking bass, and an off-kilter melody, it’s a contemplative pop song that is “hypnotic but still kinetic,” according to the band. Listen to it via cltampa.com/music and then see the band play it in real life at this no-cover downtown Tampa show. (Hooch and Hive, Tampa) INFO
