Tampa Bay live music Saturday with Basement Sessions, Friends 4 Women benefit and more

ZETA releases a new album at Microgroove, too.

✔️ Basement Sessions w/Garden Club/Eyeznpowa/Ex Nihlo/Acoupstix/Chargood/NDO X Rouxgawd/DJ Wally Clark An on-again-off-again, multidisciplinary showcase of Tampa Bay’s brightest musicians and visual artists re-emerges at a new location (Shuffle in Tampa Heights), where the walls of the shuffleboard area will be transformed into an art gallery featuring work from over a dozen revered Bay area artists like sculptor Noah Deledda, illustrators Cory Robinson, Beyo and Scumrag, plus designers like Daniel Williams, Conrad Garner, Joel Cook, Mega Supremo and Mandie Rush. What’s more is that a musical lineup of six lyricists, bands and DJs — including jazz-driven combo Garden Club and Bay area hip-hop powerhouse Eyzenpowa — is set to provide the sounds. Not to be missed, especially when you consider the fact that Jason Rodriguez — Bay area chef who splits his time between Tampa and Maine — is orchestrating the menu. (Shuffle, Tampa) INFO

Roger Sanchez w/Jask/DJ Coro Ichicoro ANE beneath Station House has some killer noodz when the kitchen is open, but the extended hours find the basement turning into a club. On Saturday, Dominican-American house DJ Roger Sanchez (who won a Grammy for a 2013 remix of No Doubt’s “Hello Good”) will be setting the mood for a late-night party where DJ Coro opens the show. ✔️ ZETA w/Vacancy/Bornite Carnation In 2017, a bill at The Bunker at Ybor City was all over the hemisphere thanks to bands from Pennsylvania (Free Cake For Every Creature), New York City (T-Rextasy), and Puerto Rico (Dan Siego), but one act left us particularly shook. ZETA — originally from Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela but now living in Florida — left our ears ringing and begging for more, and on Saturday the band will give it to us in the form of this release show for a new album, Magia Infinita, which ups the ante on the chaotic, sometimes jazy and fully brutal art-punk we’ve come to know and expect from the group. (Microgroove, Tampa) INFO

Dave Koz w/Mindi Abair/Jonathan Butler/Kikeo Matsui The soundtrack to the childhood holiday your mom subjected you to is coming alive on Saturday when the smoothest of elevator music operators — Grammy-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz — brings a few friends (most notbaly St. Petersburg-born saxophone player Mindi Abair) to Ruth Eckerd for his annual Christmas show. ✔️ Friends4Women w/Nervous Girls/Lassyu/Vetnough/Nathalia Estrada/Everything Issues/Same Day Delivery Orchestra/more Over the summer, four friends arranged a private, backyard ACLU benefit that raised more than $2,000 to help families deal with the Trump administration’s completely fucked-up policy of separating immigrant families at the border and in the courtroom. More benefits weren’t in the works but then the hearing of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford — who accused then-U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually abusing her in high school — happened. We all know how that hearing ended, and the frustration led those same friends to organize this concert where proceeds will be diverted to RAINN (the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization) and The Spring (a Bay area women’s shelter).

Happening at Seminole Heights’ 7venth Sun Brewing (the brewery’s co-founder Justin Stange was charged with misdemeanor battery over the summer), Friends4Women features music by all female-fronted acts, and organizers are encouraging cash donations as well as donations of personal toiletry items like soap, toothpaste, and shampoo. “We’ve received over a dozen extremely generous donations of gift certificates to local businesses, gift baskets and artwork for our silent auctions and raffles,” songwriter Shae Krispinky told CL. “The great thing about these benefits, and the Friends 4 Women benefit in particular, isn’t just being able to donate to great causes; it’s being able to say to all the powerful women and survivors we know that we see them, we stand with them, we support them — and to show them that support.” (7venth Sun Brewery, Tampa) INFO

Resinated Release Concert w/Seranation/Artikal Sound System Bay area reggae-rock guys done good, Resinated, continue the rollout of their Morning After EP series with this Jannus Live show alongside some of the Sunshine State’s most irie and rocking alternative acts. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg) INFO

✔️ Justin Depth & Gela w/Uhlectronic Over the summer, Justin Myers was a cog in CL’s Music Issue, which highlighted 30 of the brightest Bay area musicians under 30 years old. The project was born after the producer and multi-instrumentalist (then working under the moniker DJ 333) made a mixtape for an exhibition at Tempus Projects that called for a cassette playlist that could be played on boomboxes throughout the Seminole Heights art gallery. As time went on, bands Myers had with friends started to take breaks, which meant that he would work on random bits that were lying around. Fans of New York groups like experimental outfit Black Dice or the post-pop free-thinking Animal Collective can probably put any hope of new Diamond Man material on the back burner, but Alien House and Myers’ Justin Depth (which have close to a dozen mixtapes, albums or EPs between them) projects were both working on new material as the issue hit stands. On Saturday, Myers goes back to those cassette roots with this show celebrating the release of a split tape he’s releasing with fellow Tampa producer Gela. Another 30 under 30 artist — Uhlectronic — opens this show that is all-ages and free to attend. (The Bricks, Ybor City) INFO
