Skipper's hosts a Midnight Bowlers League

The Skipperdome kicks off what it hopes to make a new series of multi-act showcases of roots-influenced bands. The opening salvo features four Tampa Bay bands that know how to get audiences shaking it under the oaks. Topping the roster is Midnight Bowlers League, a doghouse bass rockabilly quartet that has been expertly channeling the vintage Sun Records sound for the past decade. Johnny Zoom Cheerleader Squad does rockabilly with a punk feel, and the good-times twang-rock outfit Sarge and the Aeromen is the latest endeavor by Mark Warren (Vodkanauts, Barely Pink). The Haole Kats do Hawaiian-steel-laced surf-rock.

Roots N Rhythm: Midnight Bowlers League/Johnny Zoom Cheerleader Squad/Sarge and the Aeromen/Haole Kats, Fri., July 25, 8 p.m., Skipper's Smokehouse, Tampa, $7 (advance), $10 (door).
