...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.

Austin's ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead may be known more for their tendency to destroy everything on or near the stage during performances than for their technical yet visceral rock, but the latter is as good a reason to see them live as the former.

After a couple of albums released on cred-intensive North Carolina indie label Merge (it's run by Superchunk, you know) garnered widespread praise, the band signed with Interscope; their major-label debut, 2002's Source Tags and Codes, scored a perfect 10 from notoriously hip 'n' snobby music website Pitchfork Media. The just-released follow-up, Worlds Apart, is more accessible than Trail of Dead's earlier work, but remains sinewy, dynamic and unpredictable - just like the group's vaunted shows.

…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead w/Octopus Project/The Swords, 7 p.m. Sun., April 3. State Theatre, St. Petersburg. All Ages; $15
