National singer-songwriter David Dondero has so many close ties with Tampa he feels like one of our own, and now he’s apparently ready to play a concert at one of the hottest new restaurants to open in 2021.
Dondero—a veteran of the now defunct Pre-Fest and other local venues like New World Brewery and Independent Bar & Cafe—is playing a super-intimate show at the new Davis Island spot Bayou Bodega on Wednesday, June 9.

Only 30 tickets will be sold to see the guy NPR once called one of the world’s “best living songwriters” (Paul McCartney, PJ Harvey and Tom Waits were some of the heavy hitters also on the Top 10 list).
Dondero has also played quite a few smaller shows in Tampa, including an unofficial pre-Fest party at Lucky You Tattoo way back in 2019.
Tickets for the inside show run $15-$20, dinner and drinks are not included. Bayou Bodega has an extensive international natural list plus a menu filled with Latin-Caribbean and Creole-Cajun inspired food.
If you happen to be a budding Dondero, Bayou starts an open mic the following Wednesday, June 16, and it’ll happen weekly from 5 p.m.-9 p.m.
