St. Petersburg College has proven itself ahead of the pack with its Music Industry Recording Arts (MIRA) Program, providing students with an abundance of educational opportunities and chances to get added learning outside the traditional classroom domain with ongoing programs like its Professional Development Series for Artists and Musicians, presented in partnership with the City of St. Petersburg.
The topic of the series' latest program is Recording Studio Etiquette, which finds a panel of well-regarded recording professionals with decades of experience talking shop etiquette — communications protocols, unspoken rules of the recording studio, traditions, how to improve session workflows and professionalism in the studio.
The panelists include audio recording engineer and producer Tom Morris, who manned the boards for Morbid Angel, Destiny’s Child, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and so many others during his tenure running Morrisound Recording with his brother Jim; Al Pitrelli, Music Director for Trans-Siberian Orchestra and a much sought-after session guitarist and sideman with 32 Gold and Platinum records to his credit for his work with artists like Alice Cooper, David Lee Roth, Michael Bolton, Celine Dion, Savatage and Megadeath; Recording Drums: The Complete Guide author and Method to the Mix YouTube series creator Mike Major, a 30-year vet of the industry whose resume includes At The Drive-in, Coheed and Cambria, Sparta and hundreds of others; Grammy Foundation voting member and Springs Theatre primary John Stephan (Jennifer Lopez, Joshua Bell, Robert Shaw, The Florida Orchestra); and multi-Grammy winner Eric Schilling, who ran Gloria Estefan's Crescent Moon Studios and has recorded Madonna, Natalie Cole, Ricky Martin, Jon Secada, Shakira, Frank Sinatra, Arturo Sandoval and others
