You know who’s been a joy to watch develop? Vince Demor. The young accordion player — yes, you read that right — arrived at St. Petersburg College’s Music Industry Recording Arts program (MIRA) with a thirst to learn more about an instrument he already had a penchant for playing, and the staff at MIRA made sure that its campus was a place that an immersion could happen. Long-running Bay area educator Nina Wegmann (full disclosure: she was my band teacher in the early aughts) took the young phenom under his wing, and a kid who literally dreamed of making a living doing what he loves is well on his way. Wegmann joins Demor for a graduation recital that won’t be his last Bay area performance by any means.
