Author John Capouya, whose book Florida Soul devotes a chapter to Gearing, reached out to CL to say that this show has been canceled.

A St. Petersburg soul institution, Frankie Gearing, celebrates Father’s Day with a show at a South Side soul food spot. The 74-year-old singer was in a variety of groups (Co-eds, The Laddins, The Steinways, The Glories), but she’s best known for the work she did with Hi Records signees Quiet Elegance.

This is a chance to see and hear living history, and those who want extra credit may want to be in Tampa on Saturday, June 15, when John Capouya reads from his latest book, Florida Soul, which devotes an entire chapter to Gearing. Chief’s Creole Café is getting back to CL about set times and reservations, so stay tuned.
