Tampa Bay: meet your hometown heartthrobs. To all the Prince and Sade-loving, turtleneck-wearing local music mavens out there — these two are for you. Two members from the band formerly known as Sound Parlor bring geeky charm and suaveness plus extensive knowledge of, like, almost every instrument known to man to the new and improved Danny and Alex as it performs at Art & Soul at Iberian Rooster on June 21. The boys — along with a new backing band featuring Sebastian Siaca on bass, drummer Natalie Depergola and Andrea Tafelski on percussion — don't have a band name name to hide behind anymore which means that the leading men (Danny Scordato and Alex Merrill) will have to bare their old souls with no filter.
Regulars on St. Pete's bar scene probably recognize the boys from sets at live music hubs like Ruby’s Elixir, The Hideaway and even Manatees on the Bay in Gulfport, but Danny and Alex have also rocked out with Boston and Steely Dan's Jeff “Skunk” Baxter. The guys even played a private show for Questlove when The Roots drummer visited Orlando.
Material from the pair’s forthcoming debut album — written, engineered and mixed by the boys in Danny's downtown St. Petersburg apartment — has consisted of singles that are upbeat explorations about coming of age. Songs like “Mrs. Mashay” paint a picture of a teacher student romance while “Who’s Been Smoking You Out?” tells the well-known tale of love, parties, ganja and jealousy. “Man with a Minivan” is the official theme song for freshly licensed drivers driving shaggin' wagons.
There is no album release date yet, but there is always Soundcloud.
