Big Eyes’ new album, Streets of the Lost, comes out on Friday, April 5, and the New York rock band is spending release week in Florida. This Tuesday, April 9 performance at a St. Petersburg DIY venue and tattoo shop Lucky You Tattoo is just one of five Sunshine State dates for Big Eyes, which has added a new, psychedelic wrinkle to a 10-year-old sound that’s leaned on hard rock and punk ever since the band came swaggering onto the scene with a powerful 2010 demo tape. Orlando's Expert Timing plus two Tampa Bay bands — Sandspur City and The Nervous Girls — play support at the all ages gig.
If you’re stomach is growling for some alt-country and punk flavor right now, then you might want to head to The Bends on Thursday April 4 for a free meal. That’s where Bay area promoter Savage Beat has booked another gig featuring a pair of Athens, Georgia outfits (Divine Feed featuring Ninja Gun's Jonathan Coody, Hunger Anthem) that’ll please fans of bands like the Black Lips, Superchunk, Mountain Goats and even Conor Oberst. Tampa’s very own Navin Ave. will escape the wastelands of Seminole Heights to open alongside power-pop songwriter Victor Alvarez, who is fronting his Critical Hits project for this no-cover 21 & up concert.
