Rahim/Zillionaire/Dear and Glorious Physician/The Same

Anyone wondering what the constantly changing face of indie rock happens to look like at this particular moment would do well to check out this slate of smart, adventurous acts. Headliner Rahim hails from NYC; the group's forthcoming second disc, Ideal Lives, mixes the angularity, dynamics and experimentalism of the weirdest of the Dischord Records roster with an odd-but-engaging pop sensibility. Tampa's Zillionaire is composed of former members of too many great local (and local-gone-national) acts to mention, and plies thoughtful, artfully arranged fare. Tallahassee's Dear and Glorious Physician has become a frequent and welcome visitor to the New World, and kills it with some catchy but taut and vaguely ominous rock, while the Bay area's The Same blends trendy, danceable post-punk with a bit of everything else that can come out of a guitar.
