It’s been nearly a century for the dance known as the Lindy Hop, and The Cat’s Meow (a Bay area group of swing dance devotees) is celebrating its organization’s second anniversary with a swanky basement party soundtracked by a quartet featuring trumpeter James Suggs, guitarist Nate Najar, bass player Steve Boisen and drummer Jean Bolduc.

Beginner’s lessons kick things off ahead of three-and-a-half hours of dancing briefly interrupted by a 30-minute mix & match dance contest. Discounts for students and first timers are available, and The Cat’s Meow promises that its events are “a place to feel accepted no matter how you look or identify.”

The Hep Cat Club Anniversary w/James Suggs/Nate Najar/Steve Boisen/Jean Bolduc. Thurs. June 6, 7 p.m. $15-$20. SubCentral at Iberian Rooster, St. Petersburg. INFO.
