With every All Music Guide entry easily found online, it's tempting to wonder why they continue publishing paperbacks. For me, at least, there's still something charming about stuffing a book in your back pocket and going to the beach, one place I refuse to bring my laptop. At any rate, AMG's Required Listening Series kicked off with a classic-rock tome and continues with Old School Rap & Hip-Hop, which features informative capsule reviews of more than 500 albums dating from the late-1970s to the mid-'90s. 4 stars
