Tuesday marked what would have been rock legend Tom Petty’s 70th trip around the sun. With last week’s release of his final project, Wildflowers And All The Rest, you may have seen his name in the headlines. Well, you’ll have to get used to it for the next few days.

His circle took to social media Tuesday morning to announce Tom Petty’s 70th Birthday Bash, a massive, albeit virtual, all-star concert honoring the birthday of the sandy-haired rocker that gave us “Refugee” 41 years ago this week. The event, which will be five hours long, and it kicks off at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23 via SiriusXM’s Tom Petty Radio. At 7 p.m. an actual video livestream will begin on Twitch, where most of Tom’s friends and confidantes over the years will materialize.

What’s more is that the bill for the tribute includes Tampa Bay Americana favorites Hannah Harber (pictured above, playing Gasparilla Music Festival 2019) and Have Gun, Will Travel, who appear alongside tributes and performances from the likes of Jason Isbell, The Killers, and more.

Once the clock strikes 7 p.m.and the switch to Twitch is made (though you’ll still be able to listen on Sirius), longtime collaborators, such as Stevie Nicks, Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, and Dhani Harrison, will switch on their cameras to either perform or say a few words. Other tributes will come from Eddie Vedder, Lucinda Williams, and—*rubs eyes* Post Malone?

If only this were an in-person event like 2002’s Concert For George, of which Petty actually played at. Which reminds me: and while Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench will reunite, neither of the living Traveling Wilburys will be present. Thanks, Jeff and Bob.
