Tonight in live music: Marty Stuart and The Fabulous Superlatives, Buckethead

The holiday weekend is almost upon us -- why not start it early with some live music? Here's a few concert highlights happening this Thurs., May 26, to usher in

Marty Stuart and The Fabulous Superlatives Five-time Grammy-winning country music songsmith Stuart has a warm and deep drawl with a golden Sun Records-vintage quality, twangy sounds rooted in traditional country but drawing healthily on elements of rockabilly, gospel and honky tonk, and choppy mastership of mandolin and guitar, both acoustic and electric axe models. He’s released 16 studio LPs, though only ushered in his Fabulous Superlatives with 2003’s Country Music. Six more have followed since then; the last was a double album in 2014, Saturday Night & Sunday Morning. (Ferguson Hall at Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa) –Leilani Polk

Buckethead To say that Buckethead hasn't explored his potentiality as premier guitar god is a woeful understatement. He may be one of the most prolific living musicians of our time. With a staggering amount of studio albums touching on an array of genres that includes funk, blues and nearly every sub-genre of metal imaginable. From soul-melting shredding to shoegazey tremolo work to every other guitar trick known to mankind (and likely a few that aren’t), there are few players with greater talent, at least in terms of heavily emotive yet technical guitar mastery. Keep in mind, this is music coming from a dude who literally wears a bucket on his head and has been known to do the robot live on stage. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg) –Brian Roesler
