✔️ Tampa Pig Jig on the River w/Chris Young/Riley Green/Deer Tick/Brett Dennen/Futurebirds/Carson McHone In 2012, Deer Tick got rowdy on the banks of the Hillsborough River as part of the first-ever Gasparilla Music Festival. It was a rollicking, ridiculously fun time, and the band would return to Tampa two years later for a 2014 headlining show at Crowbar (the same room Deer Tick also played back in 2010). The boys will support two 2018 self-titled albums at the 8th annual Tampa Pig Jig, which raises awareness and funds for NephCure Kidney International. Athens psych-rock favorites Futurebirds are also on the bill along with folk-pop strummer Brett Dennen and a trio of twangy crooners including rising country music star Chris Young, Riley Green and Carson McHone. It’s Pig Jig’s biggest lineup to date and raises the question of whether the music and BBQ festival will outgrow Curtis Hixon Park and move downriver to the new Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park. ANOTHER ROUND
Florida Avenue Brewing's Pig Jig Lager returns to Tampa for another year

Mandisa w/Blanca/Candace Payne/Jasmine Murray Christian pop fans may have slept on Crowder’s sold-out Clearwater show, but here’s a chance for them to catch a pair of reality singing show contestants — Mandisa and Jasmine Murray, who were on American Idol’s fifth and eighth seasons, respectively — plus former Group 1 Crew singer Blanca on the same stage. Bonus points since Candace Payne (aka “Chewbacca Mom”) will be on hand to bring an extra layer of positivity to the party. (Calvary Church, Clearwater) INFO

Lassyu Album Release Party w/The Boats/GreyMarket Is there a great local album that Rock Garden Recording’s Dan Byers has not touched? Byers was at the board for Part Tree, the new album from St. Petersburg rock band Lassyu, which recorded its 11 songs in one day before Dave Greenberg handled the mastering at his Sonopod studios. “Part Tree is about keeping yourself out of a rut, pushing your limits, not getting complacent, and going into the night, unafraid,” the band told CL in an email. “As Adam [Steadman, bassist]’s father said, 'That’s when you’re dead, when nothing new can blow you away.'” (The Bends, St. Petersburg) INFO

R.I.P. Butch Trucks
R.I.P. Butch Trucks, Allman Brothers Band co-founder dead at 69

✔️ Damon Fowler Band w/The Nighthawks Damon Fowler’s existence as a sideman has been ill-fated as of late (in 2017, Butch Trucks, for whom Fowler played guitar, committed suicide; last month, Dickey Betts, who also hired Fowler to play guitar, was hospitalized with a brain injury following a freak accident). Thankfully Fowler — a Bay area blues gem — gets to front his own group on Saturday as part of the CD release party for Whiskey Bayou Sessions, which was produced by Tab Benoit. D.C. blues outfit The Nighthawks opens the show. (Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa) INFO

WHERE THERE'S A WILL
Where there's a Will: Tampa songwriter Will Quinlan is readying four new LPs

Have Gun, Will Travel w/Will Quinlan Two rocks of Tampa Bay’s Americana scene cross paths under the oaks at Crooked Thumb Brewery for this laid-back, low-key, no-cover show. Quinlan and the HGWT boys may have just shared a stage at a recreation of The Last Waltz, but its always special when their powers combine. (Crooked Thumb Brewery, Safety Harbor) INFO

Jeremy Stolle Most Broadway fans will recognize Jeremy Stolle after his eight-year-plus run as multiple characters in The Phantom of the Opera. He takes the mask off at this intimate cabaret concert featuring Broadway tunes, jazz standards and hits from Stolle’s debut album In The Moment. (Jaeb Theater at David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa) INFO

✔️ Pops in the Park w/Florida Orchestra The Florida Orchestra’s free Pops in the Park — its largest concert of the year — sees about 20,000 fans pack Vinoy Park for their favorite music, from symphonic classics to film scores all capped by a grand finale that includes fireworks. This year’s program includes Bernstein, Mendelssohn and Gershwin along with music from Frozen and Star Wars. The orchestra does an encore performance the next night, October 21, at River Tower Park in Tampa (but there won’t be fireworks at the Sunday show). In a longstanding tradition, TFO will collect nonperishable goods for Tampa Bay Harvest’s annual food drive on both nights. More information is available via floridaorchestra.org. (Vinoy Park, St. Petersburg) INFO

Locals Fest w/Seranation/SOWFLO/DJ Badda Skat/DJ Rollin Seranation, SOWFLO, Ted Bowne of Passafire, Kenny Mullins of Resinated, DJ Badda Skat and DJ Rollin play this all-ages, dog-friendly, community-centered event that hopes to highlight the neighborhoods by the Gulf beaches and raise funds for coastal clean-up. A portion of ticket sales will benefit Tampa Bay Watch. (Sea Dog Brew Pub, Treasure Island) INFO
