In a week or two, all the finishing touches on a new album from Tampa Bay songwriter Blake Danielswill be done.

Daniels works like Elliott Smith and Kurt Vile in the way he writes and records the music himself, and rough mixes of songs from Break The Cycle update the Mellencamp-y vibe of past material with a splash of saltwater and extra bells (“On and On”), cultivate his penchant for writing harmony-rich soft rockers (“Sum Blues”) and revisit the classic harmonica-boosted Americana many fans have come to love Daniels for (“Marlon Brando”).

On Friday at what’s become thee downtown Tampa venue to see live original local music each weekend, Daniels is joined by friends—Connor Zwetsch on guitar and bass, Josh Barbour on lead guitar, keyboardist Anthony Saunder and drummer Dillon Reader—as they run through all 11 tracks of the effort.

Zwetsch pulls double duty and opens the show. Look for an official album release show next month.
