The Dark Romantics

Some Midnight Kissin'

Repeat this band's name three times, and you can probably guess the sound: Gloomy, sleazy and stylish. The Dark Romantics — two friends, their wives (who also happen to be sisters) and a friend on drums — clear up the foggy shoegaze sound with bright harmonies and relatively clean instrumentation. These boys and girls still come off like a band inspired by those bands inspired by those bands that invented the gloom 'n' strum thing. I might dig the slick come-on "So Confused (And We Like It)," but I can't shake the feeling I've heard it all before. 2.5 stars
