The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers releases his solo debut in September

According to the folks at Billboard, Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has a solo LP, Flamingo, hitting the shelves on September 14th.  The first single, "Crossfire", started popping up in the blogosphere a couple weeks ago.  It's typical Killers fare;  sunny, crooning verses interspersed with big U2-ian chorus.

But, wait.  The Killer are on hiatus, so this is strictly Flowers.

In all seriousness though, could anyone really tell with a blind listen to this thing?  Not that it's bad, I just wouldn't put my chips on a radical departure from Flowers anytime soon.

Dan Aurbach, of the recently well-reviewed Black Keys, faced some similar criticism after releasing his lone effort, Keep it Hid, late last year.

What do you think?  Should a frontman even bother with a solo effort if it sounds like a near-carbon copy of his band's sound?
