This Friday in Tampa: Duncan Sheik at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts

Singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik has been through quite a career transformation, from weathered-voiced pop-rock troubadour to musical theater composing guru. He made the surprising leap to theater with his off-Broadway debut of the Tony-winning rock musical, Spring Awakening, in 2006. The show was a global phenomenon, breathed new life into Sheik’s career, and debuted on Broadway in December later that same year. His most recent album, 2009’s Whisper House, includes selections from his 2010 musical of the same name, and uses woodwinds and strings to create a lush backdrop for his imaginative ghost stories. Sheik is currently working on the musical adaption of American Psycho. Fri., March 26, 7:30 p.m., Straz Center for the Performing Arts, downtown Tampa, $25.50-$39.50.
