Tonight in live music: Bonerama, Keys n Krates, The Toasters

A look at some concerts happening this Thurs., Oct. 22.

Hey look — it's Thursday! Here's some live music happening on this 22nd day of October.

Keys n Krates
If we were nit-picking, this Toronto trio would be more suitably called ‘Keys n Krates n Beats’ since it’s composed of synth stroker/keyboardist David Matisse, turntablist Jr. Flo and drummer Adam Tune. Their sound touches on elements of classic house, hip hop and bass music as delivered with live instrumentation, which has earned Keys n Krates their “trap band” label. They’ve released EPs on Dim Mak and Mad Decent, and have a few bangers that have clocked more than 3 million plays on Soundcloud – including “Treat Me Right” in 2013 and last year’s “Are We Faded.” (The Ritz Ybor, Ybor City)

Bonerama It’s pretty sweet that a hot brass-stacked funk-rocking New Orleans staple is stopping at the modest Ale and the Witch; those bellyaching condo owners will likely be none too happy. At least Bonerama is raging the DEN, the upstairs indoor addition to the Witch built out from its Plaza Tower BBQ Den and now featuring a raised stage and roomier floor space for dancing. Three trombone players/vocalists power Bonerama’s sounds, with a bassist who also blows sousaphone for added lowend brass frequencies, a guitarist laying down the greasy wah-wah guitar, fuzzy riffage and wailing solos, and a drummer providing the firm rhythmic backbone in a repertoire that includes originals as well as covers by Led Zeppelin (“The Ocean,” “When the Levee Breaks”) and Black Sabbath (“War Pigs”), among others. (Ale and the Witch, St. Petersburg)

The Toasters with UNRB, The Freecoasters NYC’s esteemed third-wave ska ensemble is going on 34 years old and still burns up the stage with relentless zest. The Toasters make their way down here at least once a year as ring-led by longtime singer-guitarist Robert "Bucket" Hingley, bringing party-vibing odes bolstered by peppy two-horn (sax-trombone) section that gets the kids skanking in cuts like "Don't Let The Bastards Grind You Down" and newer-fangled “I’m Running Right Through the World.” (Crowbar, Ybor City)
