Because you need some twang with that deep fried Twinkie.

Country Gold Tour w/Leroy Van Dyke/Bobby Bare/Marty Haggard They’re digging for gold at the state fair, and this hump day show finds Marty Haggard (Merle’s boy, who also played in his dad’s touring band) playing a set that includes country crooners like Bobby Bare ("Detroit City," "500 Miles Away from Home") and Leroy Van Dyke ("The Auctioneer,” "Walk On By"). Tickets are $10-$20 and do not include admission to the Midway. Details at floridastatefair.com. (Florida State Fair, Tampa) INFO

Phonogenics 101: The Decemberists' Hazards Of Love Oh damn. Jeremy Gloff is going semi modern for this installment of his music discussion series. After taking on albums like Dylan’s Blonde on Blone (1966) and the Talking Heads’ Speaking in Tongues (1983), the Tampa songwriter will lead a discussion that tackles the Decemberists Hazards of Love (2009) this time around.(Disco Dolls Studio, Tampa) INFO

Empire Cinema w/Teen Divorce/Blacksmith At CL, there’s an unofficial countdown to new music from Empire Cinema, so we’re glad to have a chance to hear any sneak peaks as the Tampa noir-wave outfit play a free show that includes another homegrown outfit, Blacksmith (puh-lease listen to their 2016 fall/apart EP if you haven’t) and Jacksonville’s Teen Divorce who have a 2016 single (“Died Red”) that plays like happiest dose of melancholic twee pop we’ve heard in a long time. Bring some dollars for merch or a donation so that the boys led by frontman Ben Saunders — can drive back home to River City without stealing gas from someone parked in front of Cappy’s Pizza.
