Less Than Jake

It's a busy weekend beginning with this Fri., Feb. 26. Take a look at the breakdown of highlights below, then take a peek at what's coming up this weekend.
Less Than Jake Seminal Gainesville area ska-punk band Less Than Jake celebrates the 20th anniversary of breakthrough LP Losing Streak with a two-nights-in-every-city club tour. The first night is dedicated to playing the aforementioned album in its entirety, the second night features a full album presentation of its 1998 follow-up, Hello Rockview, and both nights hit on various other fan favorites before and after each staging. Victims of Circumstance support LTJ on Friday, while The Antidonts and Beebs and Her Money warm the stage for Saturday’s festivities. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)—Leilani Polk

Blast! Friday with David Cook, The Ries Brothers If you were paying attention to American Idol in 2008, you likely remember its victor, David Cook , who followed up his win with a rousing rock single “Light On” and platinum-certified self-titled LP. The Texas native has maintained a relatively low profile since then amid releasing a few pop rock LPs that showcase his gruff powerful vocals; the most recent was last year’s Digital Vein. This free Blast! Friday performance features warm-up from the Bay area’s own Ries Brothers, teen siblings who’ve opened for the likes of Chicago and REO Speedwagon, and possess songwriting abilities far beyond their years. (Cleveland Street, downtown Clearwater) —Leanne Castro

Tim Reynolds and TR3 A guitar innovator known primarily for his lead axe-slinging duties in Dave Matthews Band, Tim Reynolds balances technical brilliance with emotional honesty, dynamic vigor and fine-tuned grooves and melodies as leader of his own rock trio, TR3. If performances with DMB are any indication, Reynolds is sure to set the night on fire and leave everyone in attendance gasping for more. (Skipper's Smokehouse, Tampa)—Justin Croteau

MC Chris with Nathan Anderson The nerdcore-slinging spawn of Adult Swim (stylized ‘mc chris’) returns to town with his helium-pitched rhyme schemes and a repertoire full of droll and sometimes downright absurd ditties (personal favorite: “Hoodie Ninja”). Warm up from special guest comedian Nathan Anderson. (Crowbar, Ybor City)—LP

Carrollhood with Brother Cephus Reed Murray, Nate Young (Anberlin) and Underoath (Tim McTague) formed Carrollhood back in 2011, but Murray was welcomed into the ranks of mega pop punk outfit Say Anything shortly after the release of their Violence EP – three songs of compelling alt rock with fine-tuned electro flourishes – so we haven’t heard much from nor seen the trio in these parts. Which means this show has definite sell-out potential. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)—LP
