Tonight in live music: Malcolm Tent, Mija, Twisty Chris & The Puddin' Packs + more

A look at concerts happening this Fri., Dec. 11, plus a peek at the weekend ahead.

Things are slowing down a bit on the "regular" live music front and ramping up on holiday offerings. To check those out, click here. For live music happening this Fri., Dec. 11, plus a peek at the weekend ahead, check the breakdown below.

Malcolm Tent with Purr Purr Purr, Bosstichi Miami-spawned, Connecticut-based idiosyncratic punk rocker Malcolm Tent (not to be confused with the accordion-wielding Malcolm Tent) plays a baby blue acoustic guitar, talks or sing-songs through his drolly written odes, and has been active since ’83. According to his Bandcamp, latest album Pose Hard includes “16 incredible mind blowing tracks pointing out the wonderful absurdity of the human race, starting with the artist himself.” Among the highlights: “Achilles’ Dick," "Anti-Social Network” and, my personal favorite, “White People Everywhere.” Support for this in-store from Purr Purr Purr (the feline-charged bass/rap project of Shae Krispinsky) and Bosstichi (Treasure Island’s Adam Turkel from doing a punk rock acoustic set). (Planet Retro Records, St. Petersburg)

Twisty Chris & The Puddin' Packs, Octo Gato, Blonk A three-pack of surf and punk-rooted Florida talent. Clearwater’s own beach blanket-boisterous Twisty Chris & the Puddin’ Packs bring tracks like “Lavalava Twist” and “Jugs of a Killer,” the post-modern sleaziness of Orlando-brewed Blonk is looser and more psychedelic as driven by the tunefully piercing wails of frontman Vladimir Dragonheart Rachmoninov, while Octo Gato, from Ft. Lauderdale, pits the warbling-yelping vocal twang of Mike Locke aka Captain Octo against bouncy garage jangle. (Fubar, St. Petersburg)

Mija Amber "Mija" Giles is an on-the-rise OWSLA-repped EDM producer/DJ out of LA whose house-rooted sounds take a glitchy, trap-pumping turn; her most recent release, “Crank It,” is a collab with frequent EDM associate Ghastly and features guest grunts and utterances by Lil Jon. (Amphitheatre, Ybor City)
