Chubby Checker w/The Wildcats The cheeks are still intact, and as Ernest Evans come to St. Pete to honor the spirit of his 1960 cover of Hank Ballard’s “The Twist” know that the 75 year old Philly boy better known as Chubby Checker is still down to move his hips. The question is whether some of his other famous shimmys — “the Fly,” “Pony,” and “Hucklebuck” — will make it to the stage as well. (Palladium Theater, St. Petersburg) INFO

Meatwound w/Spit/UH/Televisionprison It’s been about two months since Tampa powerviolence trio Spit released a nine track, ten minute demo, and this show is a good chance to see how the effort — engineered by Merchandise bassist Patrick Brady — has grown. The official band of Florida Man (sludgey post-metal punks Meatwound) headline the bill that also includes Orlando instrumental act UH and a mysterious, possibly Robert Pollard appreciating, outfit Televisionprison. Jojo Last August, Jojo was giving fans a glimpse of her resurgence on a very big stage (opening for Fifth Harmony at the old Gary amphitheatre). This show is in much more intimate quarters, and it’ll be interesting to see how her latest LP, Mad Love (where she gets help from Wiz Khalifa, Remy Ma and Alessia Cara), has grown on her — and fans — since then. Charlie Wilson w/Fantasia/Solero A new album (In It To Win It, released last month) sits front and center for this appearance from Gap Band alum Charlie Wilson, who’ll be joined by Grammy winning R&B singer Fantasia and pop outfit Solero at the Sun Dome.
