A few very different shows prove highlights on this Thurs., Jan. 21. More info below, plus a breakdown of other live music happenings tonight.

Tory Lanez with Boogie People have lauded him as the next Drake, likely due to his Canadian roots and trade off between rhyme flows and effected croons ala catchy sexy “Say It,” which taps the soulful multi-voice chorus from Brownstone’s “If You Love Me” to add impact to Tory Lanez’s verses demanding his lady prove she’s into him for more than just his cash flow. Lanez dropped two mixtapes and an EP in 2015, and the debut studio LP that’s due to feature the aforementioned track is due out on Benny Blanco's Interscope imprint, Mad Love Records, sometime later this year. He’s joined by LA rapper Boogie (who found YouTube fame in 2015 track, “Oh My”) on his current “Swavenation Tour.” (Orpheum, Ybor City)

Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage A 100-city concert tour that comes highly recommended by William Shatner, who I recently talked to about his one-man show (look for the Q&A in next week’s issue). The Ultimate Voyage travels through 50 years of Star Trek, culling music from both shows and films (vintage and modern), and presenting it via live symphony orchestra while high def film and TV footage from the franchise is simultaneously projected onto a giant 40-foot screen. In sum, it’s not just space, it’s an experience. (Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg)

Orlando Transit Authority: A Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears Tribute
Largo Cultural Center, Largo
Nikki Talley Ale and the Witch, St. Petersburg
Fletcher’s Grove Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin
Displace Thunder Alley @ Amalie Arena, Tampa
Stick Martin Bilmar Beach Resort, Treasure Island
