A mix of hip hop, alt rock and folk music on this Tue., Feb. 10. Check out the breakdown below...
Wale The self-proclaimed “Ambassador of Rap for the Capital” and Seinfeld aficionado Wale hits The Ritz Ybor as on his “SIMPLE Mobile – Simply Nothing” tour. Combining go-go hip-hop with clever lyrical wordplay, the DC-area Maybach Music-repped rapper has a style that ranges from ambitious anthems like 2013’s “Golden Salvation,” delivered from the perspective of Jesus, to slower love ballads featuring R&B singers ala latest single “The Body” with Jeremih, and club-friendly bangers like “Clappers” that is sure to have plenty of asses shaking on this night. (The Ritz Ybor, Ybor City) –Seth Peterson
Evan Dando with Sara Johnston The creative mind who’s led the Lemonheads in all its incarnations and through its light stylistic evolution, from punk and college rock to post-grungy alternative and back again, has been kicking around as a solo artist since the late ’90s, taking the odd gig (like fronting MC5 for its 2004 tour) and collaborating with artists like Juliana Hatfield and The Dandy Warhols. His setlist will likely draw on material off sole solo LP, 2003’s Baby I'm Bored, along with various Lemonheads odes. Warming the stage is Montreal-spawned multi-instrumental alt rock songstress Sara Johnston. (Crowbar, Ybor City) –Leilani Polk
Tina & Her Pony with Jun For the latest edition of her Tuesday Music Series, alt folk singer-songwriter Jun Bustamante welcomes Asheville-brewed folk duo Tina & Her Pony, their Appalachia-soaked sounds marked by queer lyrical turns and unexpected instrumentation; Tina Collins juggles tenor banjo, tenor ukulele and guitar while partner-in-crime Quetzal Jordan handles cello and guitar, and they share lead and harmonizing vocal duties. Tina & Her Pony also play Florida Brewing Co. on Friday. (Ale and the Witch, St. Petersburg) –LP
