A look at what's happening in music this Thurs., Aug. 6...

Whitesnake with The Dead Daisies, Bridge To Grace The British-American hard rock outfit behind such urgent hair metal hits as “Is This Love” and “Here I Go Again” (remember the video with Tawny Kitaen writhing and hair-tossing on the hood of lead singer David Coverdale's Jaguar?) have continued to release music beyond the material of their ‘80s heyday. The Purple Album, which dropped in May, includes remakes of Deep Purple cuts culled from the period when Cloverdale was a member of the lineup (1974-75). Joining Whitesnake on the tour behind it is The Dead Daisies, a rock supergroup with a rotating line-up; just released debut Revolución features bassist Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), keysman Dizzy Reed (Guns n’ Roses) and drummer Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol), among others. (Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater)

Rock the Park with Funny Bunny, The Cruz Brothers, Mercy McCoy August brings quality sounds to the outdoor Rock the Park stage: a CL favorite, post-disco/post-punk/psych-New Wave rockers Funny Bunny, which just dropped a sexy-fresh EP, Lucky You; The Cruz Brothers, founded by youthful Cruz siblings Phil (vocals, guitar) and PJ (drums, percussion), their quartet dishing out grunge influenced rock n’ roll; and Mercy McCoy, not a person but a three-piece rock band with folk-pop twang and faint blues rock sway. (Curtis Hixon Park, Tampa)
