Video: Kacey Musgraves plays "Biscuits" on Fallon, see her at The Trop on July 25

Perhaps the only real thing pop country is producing these days

If you need even more proof that Kacey Musgraves does whatever she wants, then look no further than the 26-year-old’s performance on "The Tonight Show" late Tuesday evening.

Flanked by a four-piece band adorned in the finest of illuminated western formal wear, Musgraves — who looked dolled up like Loretta Lynn at a summer fair — performed “Biscuits” from her forthcoming LP Pageant Material (due June 23 via Mercury Nashville) with bare feet.

The lyrics in the catchy single include a line about “pissing in my yard” (her label asked her to change it to “spitting” — she refused), and while the song wears a few of the typical twangy sonic tenants that country radio spits out these days, holding it up against everything else on the airwaves reveals a unique persona and ethos the genre is starving for. She covered Coldplay’s “Yellow” during a recent BBC Radio appearance for chrissakes.

All of it has earned Musgraves two Grammys (Best Country Song and Best Country Song in 2013), and she takes the show to St. Pete on July 25 for a postgame performance following the Tampa Bay Rays’ bout against the Baltimore Orioles. The show is included with the price of a ticket and field wristbands are available for an additional $15. More information is at raysbaseball.com and you can watch her performance of “Biscuits” below.
