Dropin Pickup is on a roll in lyric video for “Compunction” — watch

The band celebrates a new LP on Friday with a free St. Pete show.

On Saturday Tampa’s own Dropin Pickup celebrate the release of a new LP, Bearings Lost, with a free show at St. Pete’s 3 Daughter’s Brewing.

Before they show off an indie-rock sound that mostly evades generalization, have a look at this lyric video for “Compunction” where our new intern Riley was reminded of FIDLAR and the rest of us just get to watch the band on a roll — a toilet roll that is.

“The toilet paper was being displayed in a grotesque manner...descending from the back,” drummer Denny Umphreys told CL in a message. “I think the subconscious had a hand, as I've always loved prison scenes where inmates are being as clever as they can in concealing communication - jotting down in the middle of a roll and rewinding it to perfection”

It's a funny clip and belies the track’s message and meaning.

“That tune was our revival track, if you will. Shifting our focus from an acoustic guitar-led performance for many years to an electric front allowed us to branch out and find comfort in unfamiliar waters” Umphrey’s said. “[It] sums up our current direction to some extent, as we never like being pigeon-holed [sic] as one particular breed of sound.”

Have a look below and see more information on the show via CL’s events calendar.
