Here we are, it's the last day of the month — let's go out with a bang and 15 new tunes. A gang of fresh singles dropped this week, only spurring added anticipation of forthcoming releases. I snatched a good chunk of them for ya. Play on.
Can't-miss electronic music duo Disclosure issued the second single off their upcoming Caracal LP, and Sam Smith has been called on ONCE again for his crooning. Disclosure and Sam have great chemistry. English soul singer Jamie Lidell has returned with a new track called "Pink Light," and it may be my favorite tune on this week's playlist. It's a slow burner with some subtle but sweet guitar work. Brooklyn indie-synthpop group Small Black just announced a new record this week, Best Blues, which excites me. I've been a big fan of their music since their 2010 debut, New Chain. First single "Boys Life" is a soaring tune with twinkling keyboards. L.A.-based Gardens & Villa have a jangly new jam, and it was inspired by comedian Aziz Ansari. That alone should make it worth a spin or two. It's good!
My sleeper tune of the week comes from up-and-coming indie R&B artist Gallant. "Weight In Gold" premiered over a month ago, and has caught the attention of many. It also caught the attention of musician/producer Ta-Ku. The Australian native threw a fresh coat of high-hats, synth, bass, and even a little organ in to make this one of the better remixes I've heard this year. It pairs perfectly with Gallant's neo-soul vocals. A must listen.
