Weekly Tune-Up: Tunes for your week by David Bowie, Pete Yorn, RJD2 & more

A playlist of 15 tunes to launch you into the week. Spotify playlist included.

Back again with the very first addition for 2016 is your Weekly Tune-Up. It's so good to be back here with you guys, sharing music and hopefully introducing you to some fresh tunes. The industry goes on a bit of its own holiday during the season, especially around the first few weeks of the new year, so releases can be a little scarce. However, 2016 seems to be getting off on the right foot and proving that to be less the case this year.

First and foremost, I want to dedicate this WTU to a talented man that was taken too soon yesterday. David Bowie passed at the age of 69, and the musical landscape he helped to enriched will never be quite the same. His impact will be felt for years to come. Not only did he wield influence music, but art, acting and fashion as well. Mr. Bowie, you will be sadly missed. Bowie just had his birthday on Friday and also graced us with a brand new album, Blackstar, all on the same date. It almost seems as if his 25th LP was a parting gift for the music world. Thank you, David Bowie. In his honor, we'll be kicking off this week's Tune-Up and closing it out with a few tracks off Blackstar.

There's been a Pete Yorn sighting! The talented musician is finally back with "Lost Weekend," a cut off his just-announced album, ArrangingTime, due out March 11. It's been six years since his last record, but welcome back, Pete. LA-based singer-songwriter Matt Kivel has new tune that I'm really into called "Violets," from his forthcoming LP, Janus, set to drop next month. I can't wait for the new Wild Nothing LP, Life of Pause (February 19), and his new track, "Reichpop," just spurs that excitement. Oh man, March is looking to be a good month, especially when RJD2 is dropping Dame Fortune, his new record. 'Peace of What" is the leading single in the soulful style that we've come to expect from the Philly artist. That's an album that will be all over my radar.
