WMNF’s programming hit Tampa Bay’s airwaves in September of 1979 because of donations from the community and a small group of volunteers that went door to door asking for them. The world has changed in a lot of ways since then, but the little listener-funded, community radio station that could is still going strong with a variety of local programming by dedicated staff and volunteers alike.

To celebrate its 44th birthday, New Orleans-based act The Iguana’s brings its lively fusion music to the Floridian Social stage on Friday night, masterfully blending genres like conjunto, blues and Americana from across the U.S. and Mexico. Local folk rockers Divine AF, fresh off its 2023 release “Beautifully Broken,” opens the gig.

And since it’s a birthday party, of course there will be cake. WMNF’s 44th birthday gig is also a 21 & up event.

Tickets to see The Iguanas and Divine AF at the Floridian Social in St. Petersburg on Friday, Sept. 29 are still available and run from $30-$40. Subscribe to Creative Loafing newsletters.
