Some say the soft-rock of the ‘70s and ‘80s (aka yacht-rock) that has had a resurgence as of late is not good music. Sell-out shows from Atlanta cover band Yacht Rock Revue tell a different story. The seven-piece outfit brings renditions of some of the greatest songs about sailing and non-commital sex to Jannus Live for its “Hot Dads in Tight Jeans” tour on Feb. 6.
Revue has gone from playing joke shows to getting sponsored by Live Nation and Sirius XM. The septet even had some of the greatest join them on stage including John Oates, Pablo Cruise and the late Eddie Money. Hey, local celebrity, Robin Zander! Maybe you can join the boys on stage for a rendition of Cheap Trick’s “The Flame”? Afterwards, everyone can go to Mastry’s and debate whether “The Flame” is yacht or not.
Yacht Rock Revue. Thurs., Feb. 6, 8 p.m. $12. Jannus Live, St. Petersburg. jannuslive.com
