Starting Wednesday, April 29, beaches and parks in Hernando County will reopen to the public, but with some restrictions.
During a Tuesday meeting, commissioners voted to reopen the county’s parks and beaches, but also encouraged the public to still follow the Center for Disease Control’s guidelines for staying six feet apart, wearing face masks, and keeping their groups to under 10 people.
The measure stated that while these parks and beaches are open for most activities, organized sports, events and large gatherings are not permitted. The public will also not be able to rent county buildings and pavilions.
Hernando now joins a growing list of Tampa Bay area counties reopening their beaches and public spaces, after closing in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
On Tuesday, Pinellas County also voted to reopen its beaches, as well as pools located at hotels and condominium complexes. Last week, Sarasota County voted to reopen its beaches, as well. As of now, Hillsborough County beaches and parks remain closed.
Florida reported a record high 83 new deaths from the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, which now brings our state’s death toll to 1,191.
