Tampa Mayor Jane Castor says she hopes the Lightning lose tonight

Actually, just win.

Right now, the Tampa Bay Lightning are up 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals, and on the verge of sweeping the Montreal Canadiens. While tonight’s game 4 matchup will be played over the northern border, everyone is still hoping they pull it off... except for Jane Castor.

While speaking to Spectrum Bay News 9, the mayor said that she would prefer for the Bolts to “maybe take it easy” tonight, so they could then win the next one back in front of a home crowd in Tampa.

“What we would like is for the Lightning to take it a little bit easy, to give the Canadiens just the smallest break, allow them to win one at home, and then bring it back to Amalie Arena for the final and the winning of the Stanley Cup,” said Castor. “We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but (the Lightning) are playing some amazing hockey.”

While this hot take probably makes little to no sense for even the casual sports fan that believes you should win every game possible, it does make sense coming from a mayor that has already used the recent Lightning and Bucs championships as part of her State of The City address, and in a promotional video back in May that listed her personal accomplishments while in office.

Creative Loafing Tampa Bay reached out to Castor to see if she wanted to walk this back a little, and we'll update this story if she gets back to us.
