I've always felt a certain amount of childlike anticipation in the days leading up to the Florida State Fair. I've been to the fair numerous times in the 25 years I've lived here, at several different periods of my life, and I've always had a good time. As a child, I liked the fair because I got to spend fun quality time with my dad, which included some aggressive paddle boating and bumper car run-ins. As I got older, I shunned the opportunity to hang with my dad in favor of unsupervised merriment with my friends. As an adult, I've developed a taste for fair food and find myself waiting in mouthwatering anticipation for the chance to pig out.
The 103rd Annual Florida State Fair spans three-quarters of a mile and the midway has been expanded by nearly 800 feet, which means more food and more rides. This year's fair features three steel roller coasters and two giant Ferris wheels in addition to a multitude of other rides and attractions, like the White Water Flume and Sky Glider. Other diversions include performances and animal appearances by Florida-based Circus Hollywood and a series of presentations, activities and concerts at Cracker Country.
