In solidarity with rallies happening around the country this weekend, Tampa Bay abortion rights advocates will host a "Bans off our Bodies" rally in downtown Tampa on Saturday, May 14.

The event will begin at 11 a.m at Joe Chillura Courthouse Square, located at 600 E Kennedy Blvd.

This weekend's rally follows multiple local protests that emerged in the wake of a leaked draft of a U.S. Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe vs. Wade, and effectively end the constitutional right to have an abortion.

"Most Floridians believe that all people, no matter what we look like or where we come from, deserve the rights, freedoms, and opportunities to control our lives at the most basic level: our bodies, our families, and our life’s path – and that includes the right and the ability to have an abortion," says the registration page. "It is necessary to act now, all across the country, not only to demonstrate that people support abortion access, but to show that we won’t back down."

Saturday's protest will coincide with events around the country in cities like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, D.C., Orlando, and Tallahassee.

The rally is organized by the Dream Defenders, Democratic Progressive Caucus of Tampa Bay, Florida For Change, Community Outreach Group, Florida NOW, Fierce Tampa Warriors Organizers of October March, National Asian Pacific Women’s Forum, Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida, People’s Council of Tampa, Florida Rising, LWV St. Petersburg Area,  Women’s March Florida Tampa/Hillsborough, and Progress Florida.

Those who wish to attend can register here.
