The romantic lives of politicians have a reputation for being, well, anything from tumultuous to all-out train wrecks (Sup, Sanford?). Luckily for Al and Tipper Gore, their recent split after 40 years of marriage seems amicable and respectful enough to keep the gossip hounds from jumping into a scandal-thirsty feeding frenzy on this thing.
According to Politico, the couple released an "Email from Al and Tipper Gore" early Tuesday morning stating:
"We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate.
This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.”
