Art: Drawing Beyond the Plane

Wednesday, March 12

Throughout history, drawing has been regarded as a supporting player to painting and sculpture. But over the past few decades, contemporary artists have embraced the charms and complexities of the medium in its own right. The first exhibition to debut at the Tampa Museum of Art's interim location, Centro Español in West Tampa, Drawing Beyond the Plane offers visitors a glimpse of locally and nationally recognized artists who take an experimental approach to drawing through embroidery, collage, installation, ceramics and more. A reception for museum members inaugurates the exhibit Friday night; next Saturday, a community open house includes free admission, food and entertainment, hands-on activities and bilingual storytelling. March 7-April 13, community open house 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sat., March 15, Tampa Museum of Art, 2306 N. Howard Ave., Tampa, 813-274-8130, tampamuseum.com.
