Food Not Bombs

Early this year, a small group associated with the international organization Food Not Bombs began having weekly picnics at Massey Park in downtown Tampa to feed the hungry and homeless population in the area. Police arrested some members of this peaceful group, citing an ordinance that made it illegal to distribute food in Massey Park without a permit. So the group took it up with City Hall. They continued having picnics and gathered signatures. With community support, they questioned why it should be illegal to feed the homeless in a public park. And they won. City officials dropped all charges against the group and will rewrite the ordinance with the help of the Food Not Bombs chapter.
