Gandy Driving Range and Learning Center

We don´t need fancy batting cages. We don´t even need indoor batting cages. Just give us cheap rates, a decent selection of bats and something to protect our fragile noggins, and we´ll be fine. The GDR has only three cages — one slow, medium and fast pitch each — and they´re out in the blazing sun for God and all your friends to see you miss every pitch, but we´ve never had to wait for one. Most people are there to use the driving range, anyway (this being Florida and all). And the rates are right up our alley: one buck for 10 pitches, eight for 100. Trust us, get the $8 deal; 10 pitches go by in the blink of an eye. And bring a cap to wear under the baseball helmets — they´re a bit too well used.

Gandy Driving Range and Learning Center, 10525 Gandy Blvd. N., St. Petersburg, 727-579-8445.
